As a young man, I found work on a market stall selling baked goods. I always noticed scones were a great seller, and there was no one making them wholesale at the time.

I started Haywood & Padgett with my business partner David Haywood, we had nothing but a rolling pin and we hand rolled scones to sell to the market traders in South Yorkshire.

Over 38 years, the business has grown and evolved to produce 6 million scones a week – a big contrast to the rolling pin days! I remain actively involved in the business, firmly believing that our brilliant staff are the key to the success of our bakery.

I joined the bakery 18 years ago and learned the ropes whilst studying business management at university.

I have been involved in all aspects of the business since then, and was also the inspiration behind our original brand, ‘Becky’s Bakery’.

Since becoming a mother to three beautiful children, I now balance my time between childcare and overseeing the daily activities of the Bakery.

Over the past decade, I’ve progressed from a hands-on production role to Director, gaining experience as an Oven Leader, Production Manager, and Business Manager along the way.

Today, I support the business primarily across operations, sales, and strategy—always maintaining the hands-on approach that shaped my early years at the bakery. 

I’m proud to represent the Haywood & Padgett at trade shows and take real pride in creating local jobs and producing quality products from my hometown of Barnsley.

Over the past four years, I’ve played a key role in overseeing bakery staffing and ensuring operational efficiency across shifts.

My role involves coordinating with the Operations Manager and Shift Managers to ensure each shift is fully staffed in line with production demands and customer orders from supermarkets and other partners.

I also enjoy supporting the business at trade shows whenever the opportunity arises.

Having been with Haywood & Padgett for 24 years, I’ve had the opportunity to grow alongside the business.

I started as Quality Assurance Manager in 2001 before moving into the role of Technical Manager, and in 2023, I stepped into the position of General Manager.

I now oversee all functions of the business, from product development and technical through to operations and sales.

With over a decade in the bakery industry, I specialise in product development, technical management, and food compliance.

As Product Development Manager at Haywood & Padgett, I lead innovation, optimise processes, and ensure excellence, collaborating with industry partners to create high-quality, consumer-focused bakery products.

With nearly 30 years at Haywood & Padgett, I oversee operations to ensure our scones are baked to perfection and delivered right on time.

As Operations Manager, I’m passionate about quality and efficiency—and proud to play a key role in keeping everything running seamlessly behind the scenes.

As Technical Manager at Haywood & Padgett, I oversee technical operations, ensuring product quality, food safety, and legal compliance.

My role involves leading the technical team, managing projects, and driving innovation to enhance our production processes.

Hi, I’m Ian Hemingway, the Commercial Manager. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for customer success, I manage numerous customer accounts, ensuring top-notch service and satisfaction. I’m thrilled to be part of the team!

As the Site Hygiene Manager, my trusty team and I are responsible for maintaining and continuously striving to improve our excellent hygiene standards.

I also manage the segregation, storage and removal of our factory waste streams to ensure we are doing our bit for the environment.

Now in my 25th year with the business, I’ve progressed from Warehouse Operative in the early days to becoming our Warehouse Manager.

I lead four dedicated teams, ensuring every pallet is picked, wrapped, and loaded to schedule. Supported by Jack Manterfield in Transport, I oversee all warehouse operations and staff training.

I am a Business Development Manager at Haywood and Padgett, specialising in international markets.

With four years at the company, I focus on expanding global partnerships, driving growth, and bringing our quality bakery products to new markets worldwide.
