The King’s Coronation – May 2023

23/05/2023

Some say that you can’t celebrate a Coronation without a traditional English cream tea. And that certainly seemed to be the general consensus among our customers at the beginning of May. Bunting was hung, British flag-clad tablecloths were lain, tea was poured and a whole lot of scones were adorned with jam and cream. Or cream then jam, whichever way your loyalties lay.

Here at the Haywood & Padgett, orders doubled as people around the country stocked up on scones ready for garden parties and celebrations. Thanks to the combined efforts of our staff, we baked, packed and shipped out around 2 million packets of scones in the week leading up to the Coronation. This wouldn’t have been possible without the abundance of camaderie, team work and dedication from all our staff at the bakery.

It was a day of celebrating friendship, family and British traditions, of which cream tea is an important part. We look forward to what the reign of King Charles brings.
